About Us

Michelle Biggins, Eleanor Stafford, Leona Ryder  and Margaret O'Connor make up the team of chartered physiotherapists here at ProActive Physio. Our superstar secretary Eileen Larkin keeps us all in check and ensures everything is running smoothly.

Michelle opened ProActive Physio in 2010 when she was working as a physio with Galway United and needed a base to treat players in Galway. In the last 10 years, ProActive Physio has expanded to two clinics to provide physiotherapy to the people of Galway and surrounding areas.

Eleanor Stafford is a Chartered Physiotherapist who recently graduated from the University of Limerick and has just joined the practice.  Eleanor is from Gort and is registered with CORU and the ISCP.

She has a keen interest in sport having played International soccer as well as camogie and Gaelic football at inter-county level. Having experienced several long-term injuries Eleanor can empathise with people going through a long rehabilitation process and as a result hopes she can help patients through similar situations.

Eleanor has gained experience in a variety of areas during her college facilitated work placements ranging from acute hospital settings to  primary care centres. She was also involved in delivering exercises classes at Croi house in Galway city, on top of setting up and coaching a Walking Football program.  From this, Eleanor has developed a huge interest in exercise prescription, carrying out her final year research project on the effect of exercise intervention in reducing hospital admissions.

Leona has an MSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Brighton and a BSc in Athletic Therapy and Training from Dublin City University. Leona is originally from Newport in Mayo and brings another green and red flag to the clinic!. Leona has a lot of clinical experience working in private practice and with numerous sports teams. She has a keen interest in sports and has represented Mayo Ladies football at senior intercounty level. She has also played GAA handball at senior level. This has given Leona a great understanding of the importance of staying fit and healthy and dealing with the challenges of being injured.

Leona has a special interest in injuries of the lower limb i.e. hip, groin and knee injuries. She prioritises patients’ individual goals and designs a target rehab program that is most appropriate for that person, based on best scientific evidence. Leona is committed to helping patients overcome their injuries and return to daily activities or sport.

Margaret O Connor returned from eight years working as a Senior Physiotherapist in London, after she finished her Masters in Physiotherapy. Margaret is originally from Ardrahan, now living in Gort so she is our true local! Margaret is currently on maternity leave and we miss her!
