Katy Holmes BSc. MSc. MISCP
Katy Holmes joined ProActive Physio in May 2019 and we are delighted to have this hardworking Limerick lady on board. Katy has an MSc in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from University of Limerick. Katy is registered with CORU and the ISCP.
Katy has a special interest in problems of the lower limb and rehabilitating patients back to full health using progressive exercise strengthening programs. She prioritises her patients own health goals which enable her to deliver successful targeted rehab for her patients.
Katy is our Women’s Health specialist and provides what is sometimes called a "Mummy MOT". Many women struggle to get back to exercise postpartum due to leaking while completing tasks such as jumping or running. This can be helped by strengthening up the pelvic floor muscles to be able to deal with these tasks again. This area of physiotherapy involves treatment for pelvic floor dysfunctions and bladder incontinence. Katy offers internal assessment of the pelvic floor, the most accurate way to assess how these muscles are working. Read some of her blog posts here.
Katy has worked as a pitch-side physiotherapist for several underage soccer teams at Thistle Weir Youth Academy, with senior rugby union team Trinity Academicals in Scotland. Katy also completed a 4-month internship as an athletic trainer in Philadelphia, USA. Katy is currently physiotherapist with Gort Senior Hurling.
Katy is also trained to treat the effects of breast cancer treatment. Often women are affected with scar tissue which limits the movement at the shoulder. Katy uses special hands on techniques and exercises to help regain function of the shoulder.
Katy is available for appointment in both Oranmore and Gort.
